Romatom: Romania's accession to the Agency for Nuclear Energy of the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development
The nuclear industry in Romania, through the voice of the Romanian Atomic Forum (Romatom) expresses its satisfaction without the accession of Romania to the Agency for Nuclear Energy (Nea) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), thus recognizing our country on the path of peaceful use of nuclear energy, as well as the capabilities of the nuclear community. This great step forward is the result of a concerted effort made by Central authorities and nuclear field specialists in Romania, after a rigorous evaluation carried out by experts, which included the operation and security of nuclear installations, nuclear research, radioactive waste management and storage, regulatory legislation and framework, as well as the nuclear industry as a whole.
The Nuclear Energy Agency is an intergovernmental agency that facilitates cooperation between countries with advanced infrastructures of nuclear technology, having the mission to support the 31 Member States, among the developed nations around the globe, to which Romania and Argentina are now added. "… In maintaining and further developing, through international cooperation, of the scientific, technological and legal basis for a safe, ecological and economic use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.", Contributing to ensuring approaches and common decisions of the Member States on nuclear energy policies and the sustainable development of low carbon economies, recommending"aCord of clear and coherent political support for existing and new capacities, which includes nuclear energy in ecological energy stimulation systems and encourages its development with other forms of clean energy.”.
The presence of the Prime Minister of the Government of Romania, together with the leaders of the main nuclear agencies, at the Romanian Accession ceremony at Nea/OECD, brings extra confidence for the nuclear industry in Romania. We hope that the nuclear path of our country will not stop at units 1 and 2 in Cernavoda, units with worldwide recognized performances, and will continue with units 3 and 4, but also with other innovative projects, which represent challenges for Romanian research, referring only to the generation IV Alfred reactor, the super-laser project or concernTritiului.Given that nuclear projects require relatively long periods of preparation and implementation, usually overcoming the electoral cycles, the continuity and consistency of the long -term political decisions are essential factors for a successful national nuclear program.
Romatom carefully follows the evolutions and reports issued by Nea, directly or in cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA) of OECD, appreciating their open and brave policy when he considers that "The energy -free energy is a spine of transformation to clean energy", Forecasting that for reaching the limiting targets of carbon emissions for 2050 this"It would require an increased expansion of a technology portfolio, consisting of 74% renewable sources (including 2% of CCS durable bioenergy), 15% nuclear energy, 7% of fossil combustion power plants and CCS (carbon capture and storage), and the rest using natural gases”.
The nuclear industry in Romania is aware that adherence to Nea brings us a series of rights, access to a very complex database of the agency, as well as many other information, but also the obligation to be an active party to the processes carried out in the technical committees, the exchanges of technical and programmatic information, part of the efforts to develop the common opinions within the editors and the analyzes that enter intoThe duties of the agency, along with prestigious experts in the industry, research and world academic world, among the developed states of the world.
By joining Nea, Romania exceeds the European framework in which it is currently evolving, becoming part of a prestigious nuclear nuclear community, which forces continuous efforts to maintain and overcome the capabilities that led us to this select company.By making the new units from Cernavoda and the extension of the life of the existing ones, the development of generation IV reactions, Romania will be part of the efforts to increase the global electricity production produced in nuclear installations, which will ensure by increasing its contribution from 11% of the global production of electricity in the present 17% in the same year, with a 20% in the same year, in the same year.Time horizon from 396 GW to 930 GW, providing renewable to reach the proposed targets to reduce carbon emissions.

About Romatom:
Romatom was set up on January 10, 2001, when 14 companies, with private or state capital, as well as two non-governmental associations, decided to set up the Romanian Atomic Forum.Currently, Romatom has over 30 members.
The association aims to promote the use for peaceful nuclear energy in Romania and to support the national nuclear program, as well as the coordination of all the activities assumed by the accession and participation of the Association in Foratom - the European Atomic Forum. At the same time, Romatom advocates for the protection and promotion of the interests of its members, representing the voice of the national nuclear industry, considering the technological and acquired know-how level, in order to fruiting them in practice. http://romatom.ro/
