The nuclear industry in Romania It considers as a positive signal the approval of the report on units 3 and 4 from the Cernavoda Nuclear Corlearelectric (CNE) during the meeting of the Supreme Council of Defense (CSAT) of May 27, 2016. In this context, Romatom confidently concerns the development of the project, taking note of the statement President Klaus Iohannis who points out that ,,This represents a priority investment project for Romania ”.
,,The approval by the CSAT of the report on units 3 and 4 from Cernavoda CNE is of major importance for the nuclear industry in Romania, both companies with private capital and companies with majority state capital. The implementation of the project will have a favorable impact on the national and local economy, thus estimating the creation of approx.16,000 jobs that will be directly employed in the national industry for the completion of units 3 and 4 Cernavoda. We carefully pursue the evolution of the negotiations for the conclusion of the investor agreement and the constitutive act of the new joint venture that will carry out the project and we are convinced that The energy strategy will confirm without any doubt the role of nuclear energy in the Romanian energy mix”, Said Marius Gheorghiu, the general director of Elcomex IEA, the company that owns the Romatom Presidency.
The realization of the project is beneficial for Romania, by reaching a share of 30 - 32% for nuclear energy in the national energy mix by commissioning the two new nuclear units. The project, along with other investments in the national energy sector, will contribute to strengthening the sustainability, competitiveness and energy security at European and national level, in line with the European Commission document COM(2015) 80 final, entitled ""A framework strategy for a resilient energy union with a prospective policy in the field of climate change”, From February 25, 2015, ensuring the access of consumers to an energy with accessible and competitive prices.
The participation of the Romanian nuclear industry at the completion of units 3 and 4 Cernavoda means, first of all, the enhancement of the investments made in the past, of the equipment and production spaces intended for the manufacture of components and equipment for Candu 6 type nucleelectric units.
Nuclear energy is part of the solution to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which ensures 27% of Europe's electricity and 53% of carbon -free electricity.
The two new nuclear units in Cernavoda will contribute to the strengthening of energy security, ensuring access to a competitive energy and creating premises for new jobs.At the same time, they will have a substantial contribution to reaching the decarbonization targets established on the occasion of the 21st Conference (Cop 21), held in Paris under the aegis of the United Nations between November 30 and December 11, 2015.
With reference to COP21, Teodor Chirica, a member of the Board of Directors of the European Atomic Forum (Foratoma), recalled that "Within the limits of the arguments that the defenders of each technology can bring in a debate on reaching a global agreement to increase the global warming below 2 ° C, which confirms the 'irreversible transition to a low-carbon, safer and healthier world' it is desirable as the energy industry to unite in Romania,Specific to renewable, nuclear, hydro, carbon capture and storage, leaving the states free to choose their own energy mix ”.
