Romatom: The conclusion of the agreement between EDF Energy and China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) for making two nuclear units at Hinkley Point C (HPC) is an important step for the European nuclear industry!
The Association of the Romanian - Romatom Atomic Forum, representing the nuclear industry in Romania, expresses its satisfaction for signing the strategic agreement between EDF Energy and China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).The agreement concerns the investment for the construction, commissioning and operation of two nuclear units at Hinkley Point C (HPC), in Somerset, in the southwest of England.Cooperation also takes into account the subsequent developments for the construction of two new nuclear units on the Sizewell site in Sufolk, as well as the possible authorization and construction of a Chinese conception nuclear reactor, type 'Hualong' in Bradwell, Essex.
,,This agreement has a special connotation for the European nuclear industry, a fact also welcomed by the European Atomic Forum through the press release on October 22, 2015. We must notice the happy coincidence between the signing of the EDF Energy and CGN agreement to carry out the HPC project in the United Kingdom and the approval of the memorandum between NuclearelectricaOperation and decommissioning of units 3 and 4 Cernavoda by the Extraordinary General Assembly of SNN shareholders. For Romania, the development of units 3 and 4 from Cernavoda has positive implications at the energy system, at the level of the national economy and industry. We hope in a positive evolution by entering the final phase of the selection procedure, namely the negotiation and completion of the investor agreement and the constitutive act in order to set up the new project company for the construction and completion of units 3 and 4 Cernavoda and the transition to the effective works phase.”, Said Marius Gheorghiu, the general director of Elcomex IEA, the company that owns the Romatom Presidency.
The completion of units 3 and 4 from Cernavoda CNE will contribute to increasing energy security, reducing carbon emissions and ensuring electricity at bearable prices for consumers. At the same time, there will be a significant revival of the economic and domestic business environment, by involving the national industry in the fields of equipment and components, constructions-assembly and engineering in the execution and operation of new units, recognizing "the technical capacity and interest of the local subcontractors to subcontract, in the contract, with the applicable law ”.Apart from the economic benefits, the human resources component must be mentioned, the project having the ability to attract qualified workforce.
