Oportunități pentru membrii ROMATOM, după participarea noastră la Korea Atomic Power Annual Conference
April 29, 2024 0

Between April 24-26, Romatom had the opportunity to be represented at the conference of the Korean Atomic International Forum (KAIF), an occasion on which the Supply Chain was promoted and, in particular, the Romatom community. On this occasion, the presentation "Romanian industry to Net 0" was supported in front of the audience, interviews in the press were granted and it was taken to strategic discussions with key actors from the nuclear industry.

During the discussions, Romatom emphasized the importance of global collaboration in advancement of nuclear technologies and trends that will determine the demand for electricity in the coming years.

The conference mainly focused on the export of nuclear technology from Korea to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.Although all the technologies in the nuclear sector are targeted, a special emphasis was offered to the Korean SMR called 'I-SSR'.During the conference there was a segment that benefited from the participation of a large number of Korean and international VIPs in the field. At the end of this moment there was a mou between KHNP and Gyeongju City to create a national industrial complex in support of SMR technology.

Thus, following the manifestation of these consistent efforts to export the Koreans, opportunities are identified for Romanian suppliers to be qualified with the main players in the industry and to participate in international projects located in Europe, the Middle East or Africa. This would be achievable for landmarks that would not be profitable to manufacture and transport from Asia to sites, both economic and geopolitical reasons.

Thus Romatom can play an important role in multiple directions:

  1. Agregation of marketing efforts of members and initiating collaborations with all relevant EPC companies and technology vendors.
  2. The representation of the members for the realization of the energy strategy so as to include financing to strengthen the current capacities and the development of additional capabilities in terms of halls and equipment, authorizations, as well as the training of the employees.
  3. Corroboration with similar associations in the fields of energy, defense and transport to ensure a larger work front.

This conference has underlined multiple strategic ways that Romatom members can explore in order not to improve their operational capabilities, but also to solidify their position in the global nuclear industry.

The need for collaboration, expansion and innovation has never been more critical, and through concerted efforts, we can achieve landmarks that will define the future of nuclear energy, both at the domestic and international level.

We encourage all members to take these perspectives seriously and prepare for proactive participation in the future opportunities that Romatom will continue to facilitate and support.

Romania, represented in Korea at the highest level

The cooperation between Romania and South Korea in the field of nuclear energy has developed a lot in recent years, mainly through Korean interest in our national nuclear projects. The Republic of Korea is among the states that have expressed their interest in financing the project of small modular reactors from Doicești.

The official delegation of Romania in Corea was led by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, along with the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, the general director of Nuclearelectrica, Cosmin Ghiță, the general director of Ropower (SMR project company), Melania Fun and other Romanian officials.

President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis: "Romania wants to develop the supply chains in the clean energy industry and thus lead to supporting regional decarbonization efforts. International cooperation and partnership with well -established actors are essential to achieve this objective and to ensure the energy and economic future of Romania."

General Director of Nuclearelectrica, Cosmin Ghiță: "The Romanian SMR project will benefit from the highest technological and nuclear safety level. Doosan Average, with their internationally recognized experience in the manufacture of nuclear equipment and innovations in SMR technologies, will contribute significantly to ensuring that by the end of the 2030, Romania will become a reference point in the implementation of the technology and in the implementation of the energy and in the implementation.efficient ”.

General Director Ropower, Melania Fun: "The sustainable development of the SMR Doicești project includes strong connections in the supply chain (...) We look forward to building an emblematic SMR project for Romania."

General Manager and President Doosan Amitability, Geewon Park: "Taking advantage of a powerful cooperation relationship with Nuscale Power, Doosan Amitability constantly improves its production capacities and technological progress for SMRs. We are actively preparing for the first SMR project in Romania, in order to support the reliable supply of clean energy in Romania."

Also, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, Dukgeun AHN.During the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed on bilateral nuclear energy cooperation. The memorandum aims to cooperate in the nuclear field, including the improvement of nuclear equipment, security equipment, nuclear fuel, small modular reactors (SMR) and radioactive waste management. The two ministers responsible for the energy field discussed the energy policies and decided to extend the cooperation for the development of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant and the fuel supply chain.
