Presentation
ICSI Rm. Vâlcea has cultivated over time a tradition for applied research and technological development, extrapolating the skills acquired in the early years in the investigation of hydrogen isotopes and isotopic exchange - a defining element in the development of heavy water separation and production technology, towards new research directions of societal interest - green energy and the environment (tritium, hydrogen, origin markers). Founded in 1970, under the name of Plant "G" Rm. Vâlcea, the institute wrote a beautiful success story in the book of Romanian research, closely linked to the Nuclear Energy Program of Romania, by building a heavy water production facility entirely of Romanian technological design. Similar to the life cycle, the heavy water production technology subsequently generated a new technology, that of tritium separation, and in a broader sense, it moved from the isotopic separation of deuterium to that of tritium, which is today at the mature level of technological transfer. Indirectly, the technological challenges generated by the modeling, development and control of isotopic exchange processes have over time outlined new research directions validated today through multiple results applied at a societal level, especially related to innovative solutions for the energy and environmental sectors.
During its evolution, ICSI Rm. Vâlcea has stood out through scientific research and technological development activities carried out in niche areas such as hydrogen isotope separation, cryogenics, hydrogen energy technologies, environmental protection and food security, interconnected by the genesis elements isotopes - hydrogen - energy. Today, through its development strategy, ICSI Rm. Vâlcea aims to promote technological transfer and scientific excellence by orienting research, development and innovation activities towards the requirements of Romanian society and the strategic guidelines of national development.
