COMUNICAT DE PRESĂ

Regarding The opportunities of Romanian energy after the G7 summit

The representatives of the energy industry, members of two of the most well-known professional associations in the sector, the Association of Electricity Producers-Henro and the Romanian-Romatom Atomic Forum, appreciate the debates that took place at the G7 summit, held between May 19-21, 2023, in Japan and the fact that the president of Joe Biden has reiterated the US intention to support the financing of the USAIn operation of small modular reactors - SMR in Romania, as part of the commitments of G7 leaders to implement the partnership for infrastructure and global investments (PGI).One of the goals of this partnership is to support and implement the clean energies, through integrated global solutions and part of this approach is the small modular reactors that offer safety and security, flexibility, scalability and a competitive investment effort.

The development of the SMR project in Romania through the technology developed by Nuscale Power and the engineering services of Fluor Corporation such as the interest issued by Exim Bank USA for the Romanian company involved for financial support of up to $ 99 million for the initial studies, together with the interest expressed by public and private partners from Japan, the Republic of Japan,$ 275 million in the initial support phase represents important elements to guarantee the success of the project. To these, add the letters of interest of about 1mld.USD of the International Development Finance Corporation and up to 3 billion USD Bank USA for implementing the SMR project in Romania.Once achieved, small modular reactors will contribute to the adoption of new innovative technologies in the energy sector, will accelerate the transition to clean energy, create thousands of jobs and contribute to the European energy security simultaneously with the highest standards of safety and security in the nuclear and non -roliferous field.

We must not forget that the nuclear program in Romania was started more than 50 years ago, during which time we have accumulated experience, we have prepared generations of nuclearists, from engineers, physicists, operators and other specialists, and the operation of units 1 and 2 from Cernavoda places us in the elite of the world nuclear industry.

The increasing share of renewable energy sources implies the need to flex the electricity production sector and the projects announced or in accomplishment by Henro and Romatom members demonstrate that Romania aligns with the new paradigm in the field of electricity generation, for the purpose of decaroning the energy sector and the Romanian industry.
