The Romanian Atomic Forum (Romatom) present at the World Nuclear Exhibition (Wine 2021) along with the nuclear industry giants

Romatom was present, for the first time, as an exhibitor within the world nuclear exhibition, organized in Paris, France, by the Nuclear Industry Association of France (GIFEN), between 30.11.2021 - 02.12.2021.

Romania is currently carrying out a series of investment projects in the nuclear field of strategic importance at national and regional level such as unit 1 from Cernavoda CNE, the project of units 3 and 4, the debt installation, the generation IV Alfred demonstrator, projects aligned with the Romanian decarbonation objectives, the nuclear energy representing an important composition of the national strategies. The ability of the nuclear industry in Romania to contribute to the implementation of new nuclear projects is estimated up to 40% of the value of an engineering, procurement and construction contract.According to official statements in the conference, nuclear energy knows a worldwide revival, the contribution to the combination of climatic heating being recognized, the innovations that make new nuclear projects more efficient in terms of costs and rapid, as well as the social and economic benefits of nuclear energy. At the level of EU member states, nuclear energy provides over 1 million jobs and 500 billion euros in GDP.It is estimated that by 2050, the nuclear industry will provide 1.3 million jobs if current projects at European level will be completed.

In Romania, the nuclear industry currently provides 12,600 jobs, the figure that will increase to 20,000 at the time of implementing the nuclear projects started and ensures a contribution of 5.7 billion euros in the national GDP.

At the WNE, the Romatom stand received the official visit of the Minister of Energy, Virgil-Daniel Popescu, of the delegated minister for industry in France, DNA.AGNès Pannier-Runacher as well as numerous international companies in the nuclear supply chain interested in the investment projects in Romania as well as the capabilities of the local industry.

In the WNE margin, Romatom and the Association of the Canadian Industry/ Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) have signed a Memorandum of understanding between the cooperation between the two industries for implementing Candu reactors, the rehabilitation and extension of the life of the existing reactors and the promotion of the modular reactors, the advanced reactors and the research,Preparation of human resources, development and innovation activities in both countries, as well as in third countries.

Also, Romatom initiated an action on cooperation with the nuclear industry in France, agreeing with Gifen that in a first phase a similar memorandum is completed, until the end of the first quarter of 2022.

We appreciate the fact that Romatom participation in the WNE has been a powerful signal of the Romanian nuclear industry regarding the national capabilities and projects that are included in the nuclear rebirth. Also, the progress made within the project 3 and 4 units from Cernavoda CNE as well as the intention of Romania recently announced to be in the first line of development and implementation of the Local SMR technology have increased the international interest for potential collaborations with companies in Romania. The discussions will continue at the front-in-girl level, Romatom intended to be prepared for the use of local capabilities within the projects in Romania but also of cross-border projects, along with strategic partners. ”- Lucian Rusu, Romatom President.

At European and international level, there is a revival of the interest for nuclear projects, one of the determined factors being the current crisis of energy and natural gas prices as well as the need to ensure their energy independence and resilience in front of extreme events.Through technological progress, nuclear projects have become more efficient, flexible and easy to build, being an engine transition to a carbon -free economy. Also, in the context of the discussion about a global taxonomy, we must approach each energy source from the perspective of the economic, social and environmental impact and analyze emissions throughout life, nuclear energy being a strong candidate for all the criteria mentioned.” – Teodor Chirica, Presedinte onorific ROMATOM.

About wne

The International Energy Exhibition (WNE) represents the international event dedicated to the nuclear field organized by the France's Nuclear Industry Association (GIFEN).The fourth edition of the WNE brought together over 600 exhibiting companies and 18,000 participants in the 3 days of the event, which took place in a space of about 60,000 square meters.Within the WNE were addressed topical topics such as small modular reactors, innovations in radioactive waste management, digitization, passive safety systems, sustainability, corporate social responsibility and investments in the community, integrated nuclear cycle and circular economy.

About Romatom
