Press release
The Romanian Atomic Forum ("Romatom"), the Nuclear Industry Association in Romania, welcomes the decision of the Prime Minister to constitute the Strategic Coordination Committee for the implementation of the project Units 3 and 4 from Cernavoda CNE, a committee that will be responsible for analyzing, crystallizing and substantiating strategic decisions and measures for implementing the project.

Romatom considers particularly important to adopt this decision by the Prime Minister of Romania, representative
and an element of progress in increasing the production capacity from nuclear sources in Romania, especially in the context of European decarbonization policies and of the environmental targets assumed by Romania with the horizon of 2050. Based on the experience won at the end of the previous nuclear units, but also from other projects of high complexity, the nuclear industry in Romania has high expectations regarding the completion of the 3 4 project and the completion of the project 3Cernavoda, a project with a major role in increasing the level of industrialization of Romania.
The development of additional capacities for the production of nuclear energy in Romania is provided both in the energy strategy of Romania 2019-2030 with the perspective of 2050 and in the national plan integrated in the field of energy and climatic changes 2021-2030 ("PNIESC"), nuclear energy representing a pillar of decarbonization as well as one of energy insurance in Romania.
Currently, in Romania nuclear energy provides about 18% of the electricity requirement and 33% of the total electricity with low carbon emissions. The horizontal nuclear industry in Romania provides 11,000 jobs, a number that could increase to 19,000 in the context of starting new nuclear projects[1], generating a turnover of 590 million euros.According to the study conducted by Romatom on the ability of the Romanian nuclear industry to participate in the project 3 and 4 units from Cernavoda CNE, updated at the level of 2018, it is estimated that the potential participation of the Romanian nuclear industry at the end of the project with goods and services is evaluated at about 1 - 1.6 million eurosEngineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPC).
“The establishment of the Strategic Coordination Committee for the implementation of the project Units 3 and 4 from Cernavoda CNE represents a positive signal for the nuclear industry in Romania and, through the beneficial impact of this strategic investment project, and for the Romanian economy in general, by creating new jobs, attracting and retention of specialists in Romania, stimulating the education and researchequipment builders, providing works and services related to the nuclear field. The continuation of the nuclear program in Romania will put in the value of the operating experience already acquired in units 1 and 2 and will contribute to ensuring the energy independence of our country and maintaining a balanced and diversified energy mix on the electricity tariff for the population.Stimulating investments in the energy sector is also a necessary measure of post-crisic economic relaunch generated by the Covid Pandemic 19 and the Romatom members are concerned with the possibility to contribute to this approach" - Lucian Rusu, Romatom President
